5 Fun Ways to Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Home
While New Year’s Eve really is one of the most fun holidays of the year, sometimes it just sneaks up on you so quickly that actually making plans for it seems impossible. While we’re all caught up in planning for Christmas, it’s easy to forget that right around the corner is New Year’s Eve.
Thankfully, just because plans fell to the wayside doesn’t mean your New Year’s Eve is a bust – there are tons of things you can throw together today to ensure that you’ll be ringing in 2016 in style right at home.It seems like this is the case for most people I’ve been talking to this year. I’ve heard so many friends and family members say that this year they are just wanting a low-key, relaxed, and fun night right at home.
1. Have a Movie Marathon
Alright, this isn’t groundbreaking – but it is always fun. Pick out a movie or TV show series (I highly recommend Narcos) and spend the night in with your special someone, group of friends, or family and turn on the tube. I personally love coming home after a busy week to a bottle of wine & a good movie trilogy or Netflix series.
2. Invite Friends Over
A great group of friends instantly makes a simple New Year’s celebration fun. You don’t need much more than a couple of friends to make the night special, so why not break out your cell phone right now and start making some calls?
3. Run a Games Night
Break out your old favourite games and have a games night at home! Pictionary, Scrabble, Monopoly, Catan, Azul – there are so many choices. When I was young, my family would play board games weekly and I loved it! It’s not often that friends get together for a games night, so a little throwback to our youth is fun now and then.
4. Gather Friends Together for a Potluck
Once you’ve rung up your friends, invite them over for a little potluck! Potlucks are always a great idea because everyone gets to share a little bit of themselves when they bring a dish they’ve created.
5. Or Better Yet, have a Wine Potluck (seriously, it’s fun)
You may be wondering what exactly a wine potluck is, and basically, it is exactly what it sounds like. Everyone brings a wine bottle, and everyone shares the wine so each person can taste test a wine to see which their favourites are. It’s a fun way to have an at-home wine tasting party.

These are really great ideas! I'm going up to a friend's cottage for a fondue and wine night. Very low key and exactly the way I like to ring in the New Year.
Happy New Year!
