Today I am sharing 8 Bath Essentials for a Spa-Like Experience at home!
8 Bath Essentials
My favourite way to unwind is by taking a bath. The whole ritual of taking a bath is just so relaxing, calming, and soothing for the mind, body, and soul. After particularly tough days, I find just soaking in the tub allows me to really decompress and sort through my thoughts – which lately, has been really important. We’re living through some very stressful times and it’s important to give yourself some time and space from it all.
In addition, bathes have been found to help improve the immune system, improve blood flow, and also improve sleep quality. Apparently, bringing your body temperature up in the bath changes your core temperature which helps your body recognize that it’s time for bed. How neat is that? So, if you’re like me and often struggle with insomnia, you may want to include a pre-bed bath into your evening unwinding routine.
8 Bath Essentials for an At-Home Spa Experience
Bath Bombs
To me, bath bombs are the ultimate bath luxury. They look pretty, are good for your skin, and just make the overall bath experience more of a treat. You can either make your own bath bombs or you can buy them in-store. I don’t use bath bombs every time I have a bath (that would be an expensive habit to make!) but here and there I think they are a great way to make your bath experience more spa-like and luxurious.
Bath Oils
If your skin is feeling particularly dry then you’re going to LOVE how soft and smooth your skin feels after using a bath oil. You can either purchase a bath-specific oil, or you can just use an oil in your house (yes, even just olive oil) to add to your bath.
Bath Salt Soaks
Bath salt soaks are often great for exfoliating the skin. Specifically, Epsom salts are also excellent for relaxing muscles and reducing pain, swelling, or achiness. I tend to like to take Epsom Salt baths after long hikes or workouts to help alleviate muscle and joint pain. You can also make your own coconut bath soak here.
Candles or a Diffuser
Candles create such a calming and tranquil feeling in the home as-is, but they are especially lovely to set up (safely!) around your bathroom when you’re having a bath. Plus, dimming the lights and just using candlelight while you soak is another way to create a very relaxing space before heading to bed.
Diffusers are another great way to create a calming atmosphere. Like candles, Diffusers will add a lovely scent into the air (depending on the essential oil you choose to add into it) which will support the sort of energy/feeling you’re trying to create in the space. When I want to unwind I stick to scents like lavender, vanilla, or chamomile. When I want to feel more refreshed and energized, I add citrus or minty essential oils to my diffusers.
Music, Podcast, or a Book
Sometimes I just like to relax in silence, but more often than not I like to put a podcast or some music on while I am relaxing in the bath. If I am trying to unwind, then I usually will put on some spa music. Though, I won’t lie – sometimes I also put on a true-crime podcast (specifically, My Favorite Murder) and just listen to that while I relax.
Hair Mask
About once a week, I like to apply a hair mask to my hair and lately, I’ve been incorporating it into my DIY spa-night routine. I find that adding it to this routine means that when I am done with my bath and rinsing out the treatment, that both my skin and hair feels super soft and cared for. It just feels like a head-to-toe pamper session.
Face Mask
On the same thread as the hair mask, I have really been enjoying applying a face mask before hopping into the bath. It just feels like an extra bit of pampering that is super relaxing and also super beneficial for my skin. By the end of my routine, I really feel that I’ve spent some time caring for myself and focusing on a few little things that spark joy.
Bath Tub Shelf
I used to not really see the point of bathtub shelves – until I was given one for Christmas. After that, I was converted – they are a total must-have. If you like to read in the tub, have a cup of tea (or glass of wine), or want to live on the edge and prop up your phone or iPad to watch a show, you’re going to want to have a bathtub shelf.

You should run the bath about ten minutes before you are expecting to get into the bath. It’s better to make the water a little hotter than comfortable because it will cool down before you step into it.
