10 Tips for Applying Self-Tanner Without Streaks

Summer beauty and these summer beauty tips are all about finding balance in embracing your natural beauty, protecting it, and accentuating it. Unlike during the winter you really need to stick to light-feeling products that protect your skin like lip balms with SPF, BB creams, & of course, sunscreen.

During the wintertime, it can be fun to play with bolder lipsticks, dramatic eye looks & contouring but when the sun comes out to play for summer – the lipstick melts, the eye shadows smudge, and contours often appear unnatural & severe.

Summer Beauty Tips

 1. SPF for the win:

Always apply sunscreen to your face during the summer. Though this is an important step to keep having throughout the year, it is especially necessary during the summertime.

2. Forget the foundation, hit up a BB cream:

If you want some coverage then opt for a BB Cream. BB creams often have SPF in them and are quite lightweight and comfortable feeling. They are often lighter coverage than a foundation so if you prefer a fuller coverage look then you may want to find a foundation with SPF instead.

3. Set & spray:

Try using a setting spray rather than a setting powder during the summer months. Powders can get clumpy and cakey-looking in the heat, but a spray will sit lightly & undetectable on your makeup. Try using a setting spray that has a dewy finish for a pretty summer glow.

4. Bronze

Bronzer can be a girl’s best friend in the summertime. Not only does it give you that sun-kissed glow but it actually also can give the skin a more even and flawless overall look.

Aside from the classic use of bronzers, another one of my favourite ways to wear my bronzer is as an eyeshadow. Try taking your bronzer and applying it to your eyelids as either your entire lid or just as a crease shadow. Applying bronzer to your lids will help your sun-kissed look appear more natural.

If you want an overall bronze but don’t want to sit out in the sun then I also recommend a self-tanner.

5. SPF Lip Balm:

Have you ever burned your lips? If you have then you know: it’s not fun. A few years ago I burnt my lips and ever since then, I’ve considered a SPF lip balm to be just as essential as a skin sunscreen. Treat your lips like you’d treat the rest of your skin, protect it!

6.  Choose Matte Shadows:

Since I typically go for a dewy skin look I opt out of sheens/shines for my eyes. I typically just wear matte eye-shadows to balance my look. One of my favourite eye looks that I wear is my bronzer (noted above) as a crease colour with simple matte eyeshadow to create a more even eyelid look.

7. Skip Mascara / False Lashes

I am a lash girl, always have and always will be – but during the summer I have learned (the hard way, of course) that holding back on the mascara is often a good idea when heading to the beach, or a pool. When it’s hot out makeup has a tendency to smudge and transfer, especially mascara.

If you can’t go without your favourite mascara then I’d recommend just refrain from putting lots of mascara on your lower lashes to avoid mascara circles from forming under your eyes. Try either putting on less mascara or brown mascara on the top lashes to avoid the transfer and to create a more natural look. Or, if you love mascara and don’t mind the difficulty of removing waterproof mascara then try that instead.

I love sugar lips in rose! The hint of color plus SPF is a win in my book :). I would only disagree on one teeny tiny point- dont skip SPF in place of BB cream! Unless you're using the same amount of BB cream as you would sunscreen, you don't get the same amount of protection (can you tell I'm off to my follow up dermatology visit this week?)

    Happy Monday!!

My heart is absolutely bursting right now. I can’t believe our little Liam is here. He is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. He loves his sleep, is unbelievably strong, and is a total cuddle bug. Our hearts are so full 🤍🤍🤍

We had our scheduled c-section for the morning of May 3 and we knew going into it that there were two surgical routes that would be considered because of my prior spinal surgery. The first, the more routine c-section with either an epidural or spinal anaesthesia. The second, being fully put under with general anesthesia. I’ll be honest, I really thought we would be going with the first option(s) and that GA wouldn’t really be on the table. I didn’t want it on the table, but after speaking to the anesthesiologist, it became clear that it was the safest option. It was an emotional decision, I was really scared to be honest. It was not made lightly. I was walked into the OR at about 10:00am and by 10:13am, Liam was earthside and screaming. Jeremy was there to cut the cord and give him his first cuddles. It took me a bit longer to get to see our Liam because of this surgical route, and I feel so lucky knowing Jeremy was there to be with him in his first moments. He already is such a great dad 🤍

The last 48 hours have been a wonderful whirlwind. We are all doing well. We feel incredibly blessed to have our sweet Liam here💙
