The Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter
Last Spring, I went a little wild at the Sephora Spring VIB sale. This year though, I didn’t. Maybe it’s because of COVID-19 and losing my job, or maybe it’s because this year I’ve really reviewed what I have vs. what I need (and I just realized I didn’t need anything) or maybe it’s a combination of all of those things, but I just didn’t feel inspired to shop for products this year.
Instead though, seeing 2020 VIB hauls on Youtube actually inspired me to look back on what I got last year, like the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter highlighter. So, instead of sharing a new product – I wanted to share my thoughts and a full review on a product that I’ve had for over a year now and that has continued to be a product that I reach for and love.
The Packaging:
The Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter is a liquid highlighter that comes in a glass container, it has a rose-gold metal lid, and doe-foot applicator.
The packaging feels very high quality. It has some weight to it when it’s in your hand which makes it feel very luxurious and the overall look of the packaging is very pretty. It’s the kind of product you’d enjoy having on display on your vanity table.
The downfall of the packaging is that it is glass so of course, it’s easily breakable. I wouldn’t recommend traveling with this highlighter because it could break.
The Texture and Look:
This is described as a liquid highlighter, though I would say it has a much more creamy formula than most liquid highlighters on the market. For example, if you’ve ever tried the Cover FX liquid highlighters then you’d know that those are quite liquidy and would drip if you took out the applicator and held it just in the air for a minute. The Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter highlighter is thicker and creamier and so it won’t drip if you hold the product out in front of you.
Because of its creamy texture, I would say that this highlighter is particularly more moisturizing than other highlighters being sold which makes it especially great for those who struggle with dry skin. My skin is dry prone and I have found that this product makes my skin look smoother, glowier, and glossier.
I should also mention that this highlighter is not glittery. Instead, it’s much more of that natural luminous sheen and it has a blurring effect on the skin. Because it doesn’t have that glittery look, you can easily wear this with or without foundation and still have it look completely natural with your look. I often wear this when I am not wearing foundation just so I can have that naturally glowy look.
How to Use It:
You can use this in a few different ways!
1. Primer: The first way you can use this is as a primer. Simply swipe on the product and blend it out before applying your foundation. This should give your foundation a subtly glowy look.
2. Mixed into Foundation: If you’d like to transform your foundation to have a dewy look, then mix a little bit of the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter into it and then apply it all over.
3. Highlighter: Apply it to the tops of your cheeks, to the bridge and tip of your nose, and anywhere else you’d like a luminous glow. I personally like to apply it to my collar bone area.
You can blend the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter highlighter out with your fingers, a brush, or a sponge. Whatever you prefer!
The Shades:
1 Fair – neutral beige for very fair skin
2 Light – neutral peachy beige for fair skin **This is the one I personally own.
3 Light/Medium – neutral peach for light to medium skin
4 Medium – neutral golden yellow for medium skin tones
5 Tan – neutral caramel for medium tan skin tones
6 Dark Tan – warm amber for deep skin tones
7 Dark – deep bronze for dark skin tones
The Cost:
These highlighters cost $53.00 CAD which is expensive.
My thoughts:
I adore this highlighter.
It gives you that “is she wearing highlighter or does she have amazing skin?” sort of look that supermodels rock when they walk down the runway. I love that it’s the sort of highlighter you can wear without any other makeup on, or with a full face of makeup. It’s versatile and gives you that “glow from within” sort of look.
