Colour Correcting Makeup 101
Once upon a time, the only thing we could do to cure tired-looking eyes was head to bed early for a much-needed snooze. While I still consider that the best method (I mean, who doesn’t love sleeping?), we don’t always have the time to catch up on our sleep, especially when we’re working, have responsibilities, and have an active social life.
Green Colour Corrector
If you struggle with red tones in your skin you’ll want to invest in a green colour-correcting foundation or concealer.
The green in this product helps balance out the redness to create more evenly toned skin.
I personally struggle mainly with redness in my skin and to help even out my skin tone I’ll often turn to my – I actually even used it in my summer makeup tutorial!
Purple Colour Corrector
Many people struggle with strong yellow tones in their skin. This can mimic a jaundiced look even when you’re in perfect health. To correct intense yellow undertones you want to use a purple colour corrector.
The purple in this corrector will warm up your skin tone and add in the redness needed to balance your skin. Since this is a purple though (and not a red) colour corrector, you’ll find that it will add a warm tone to your skin without adding too much redness.
Blue Toned (and white) Colour Corrector
Like the purple Colour Corrector, blue colour correctors also neutralize yellow and orange tones. If you struggle with sallow-looking skin or hyper-pigmentation, then a blue colour corrector is for you.
Blue colour correctors help balance and brighten the skin to give a more luminance appearance.
Yellow Colour Corrector
One thing we almost all struggle with is dark tired eyes. If you wake up every early morning then you likely are nodding your head as you’re reading this. Early, exhausting mornings take a toll on our eyes and leave unwanted dark circles.
To correct deep purple notes under your eyes, or dark spots on your skin, use a yellow colour corrector.
The yellow will brighten those areas while also adding in enough yellow to balance the purple in those areas. In addition, yellow colour correctors help to reduce the look of mild redness in your skin.
Pink Colour Corrector
Pink colour correctors help to neutralize the discolouration in the skin while also brightening your complexion.
If you struggle with dull-looking skin then a pink highlight is something you’ll want to try!
Peach and Orange Colour Correctors
Two more fatigue-fighting colour correctors are peachy-pink and orange colour correctors. These are excellent products to help brighten a dark spot or under-eye darkness and instantly make you appear more awake.
Be careful with these colour correctors though, at times they can add too much redness to your skin and give a slightly unnatural look.

Honestly I never gave a second thought to colour correcting but I think I need the green and peach colours in my stash for the days when I got a pimple and sleepless nights.
