This is a sponsored post, and I was invited to come in for a free treatment and I decided to get the Dermaroller Micro-Needling Pro Treatment. All opinions noted below are 100% my own.
Dermaroller Micro-Needling Pro Treatment Review
About two weeks ago now I had the joy of going to Blu Harbour Wellness Spa, located in North Vancouver for a little R&R.
If you have been following my blog for a few months then you may remember that a couple of months ago I also enjoyed an Oxygeneo facial at Blu Harbour Spa. I was thrilled to be invited back to experience their latest treatment: the Dermaroller® Treatment.
While overall my skin is quite healthy, I have begun to notice some fine lines around my eyes and on my forehead in the last year or so. I was immediately intrigued by this treatment as it aims to reduce wrinkles, tighten and tone the skin, treat scars and stretch marks, improve skin texture, and thicken the dermis.
Dermaroller® Collagen Induction Therapy (also known as “micro-needling”) uses eDermastamp® which basically means that the small tool they run over your skin gently punctures your skin with 150 micro-needles every second.
This triggers your body to have a natural healing response to your skin which stimulates cell growth and increases collagen production. When your skin has more collagen in it it looks healthier, younger, and more radiant.
Keep an Eye Out for Imitation Dermarollers
One thing to be aware of is imitation derma rollers!
Dermaroller® is the original device of its kind, has been approved by Health Canada, and uses medical-grade micro-needles. All other derma-rolling devices have been fashioned after the Dermaroller® and it’s important to understand the differences.
My Experience with the Dermaroller® Treatment
Does Microneedling Hurt?
I know it sounds scary, right? 150 needles on my skin all at once? I thought it would hurt, too, and I was pleasantly surprised when it didn’t.
There are definitely more sensitive spots (specifically around the eyes, mouth, and jawline) but it’s very tolerable, and the technician does use a numbing cream on your face prior to the treatment to reduce any discomfort you may feel.
It definitely feels funny to have a frozen face but it made the treatment overall feel like a scrub on the skin rather than like needles.
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
While I only tried the treatment out once, it is recommended to do this treatment 3-4 times with 6-week breaks in between each treatment.
After these initial 3-4 sessions, you likely will only need to have the treatment done once yearly to maintain results.
** There are situations when more treatments are needed – For example, if you’re using this treatment to reduce the appearance of scars. Depending on how intense the scarring is you may need more than 3-4 treatments.
My Experience and Results
As I mentioned above, initially I was a little nervous to try this micro-needling treatment out.
Needles scare me, to begin with – so hearing that there would be 150 teeny tiny needles running over my skin definitely had me a bit nervous! But, once the treatment started my nerves were completely put at ease.
While there are definitely more sensitive spots on the face with this treatment, the discomfort is very minimal, and for the most part, you don’t really feel much more than an intense scrub on your skin.
Post Treatment Care
Following the treatment, Tracy (the wonderful spa technician!) applied a bit of hyaluronic acid to my skin to help soothe my skin and take away any obvious redness. Hyaluronic acid is known for plumping and smoothing the skin.
She let me know that my skin may feel a bit windburned following the treatment and that I may find my skin looks a bit more red or blotchy for up to four days after the treatment. Immediately following the treatment, I found that my skin did look slightly more pink than normal, but it didn’t stop me from my regular activities – in fact, I went to the mall to shop for sweaters, red face, and all.

Is there Any Obvious Redness the Next Day?
The next day, I woke up and found my skin looked significantly better. The redness really subsided significantly. I went ahead and lightly cleansed my skin, and then applied a hyaluronic moisturizer and serum that Tracy had supplied me with.
That evening, I went to my husband’s work party and found that after applying my makeup you truly couldn’t see any redness or blotchiness on my skin at all.
I should note, that the day of the treatment they recommend you don’t wear makeup, and the next day you can wear mineral-based makeup. Here are some mineral makeup options:
I did find that by the third/fourth day that my skin did have some drier patches (specifically around my mouth and chin) but I simply applied a moisturizer and hyaluronic acid to soothe those dry spots.
Overall now that it’s been a few weeks, I do feel like my skin looks extremely healthy and vibrant. I can definitely see this as an excellent treatment to improve the texture of the skin and reduce fine lines, and I am excited to splurge one day in the future on a pack of treatments!
I love that there is truly no downtime with this treatment and that this treatment is really just activating a natural reaction from your body.
Cost of the Dermaroller Micro-Needling Treatment:
Single session: $419
4 pack: $1,508
6 pack: $2,137
Without a doubt, this is a more expensive treatment but since it does improve your skin over time and has long-term results, I do feel like it’s a worthwhile treatment.
Total Treatment time: Approx. 90 minutes
The micro-needling treatment is 90 minutes from start to finish which is a long time but I really enjoyed just relaxing and soaking up some “me time”. Plus, since the majority of the treatment is quite relaxing, it’s nice to just spend a few minutes in the calm and quiet of the treatment.
Is There Any Downtime Following Dermaroller Micro-Needling Treatment?
Nope! For me, I didn’t find that my skin was so red that I felt like I needed to stay home.
As Tracy said, my skin did feel a bit “wind-burned” the day of and the day after the micro-needling treatment, but it wasn’t super painful. It just felt somewhat tight and dry.
