Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Moisturizer Review
Last year, when I was doing a little bit of shopping at Sephora I ended up leaving with a tiny sample of the .
I’ll be honest, that little sample sat in my cabinet for weeks. Who knows, maybe it was months. All I know is that when I finally saw it sitting there and tried it out – I knew I would be making a quick trip to Sephora.
Since then, it’s been my favourite moisturizer. It’s creamy, hydrating, soothing, and a super luxurious feeling on the skin.
Packaging:
I love and hate the Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Moisturizer packaging.
On one hand, I appreciate the airless jar.
These kinds of jars ensure that the actual product won’t come in contact with outside contaminants (like when you dip your fingers into other moisturizers), that it’s protected from the sun, and also that the product doesn’t oxidize. This means the ingredients will remain stable and more active longer. I mean, that is smart – right?
This kind of jar ensures that the product you get when you first buy it is the product that you’ll continue to get over months of use.
But, I hate that you can’t actually remove this lid, without being quite aggressive, to access the last bits of the product. I think there should be a twist-off option so that you can easily scrape out the remaining amount moisturizer before it’s time to replace it.

My Skin Type
I’ve talked about my skin a number of times on the UU. For the most part, my skin is pretty normal-balanced. But, during the winter my skin always gets a bit drier and sometimes it can cause my eczema to flare up. When it does my skin becomes dry, flaky, red, and sore.
This winter has been particularly harsh and my skin has definitely been affected by it. It’s been really dry which has been causing it to peel, and during times like these, I need a moisturizer that’s quite intense and rich.
Lately, I’ve been finding myself reaching for the Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Moisturizer in both the AM and PM. While it is a super-rich cream, it doesn’t make my skin feel overly tacky/sticky. It does have a residue, but it’s more of a soft velvety feel on the skin.

Summary and Review:
My skin LOVES this moisturizer.
I recently also ordered the , so we’ll see how they compare. But for now, this one is incredible and I cannot get enough of it. It makes my skin feel soft, moisturized, and smooth. I really feel like this has been a game-changer for my skin this winter.
Since this winter has been so harsh, and my skin has been so sensitive and dry-prone, I am really glad I’ve found a product that has helped soothe my skin and kept the dryness and flakiness at bay. It’s really helped my skin remain much more balanced and smooth even though the weather has been so brutal these last few weeks.
Since this is such a heavy moisturizer, I imagine in the next few months I’ll be using this more as a night-time moisturizing cream only and switching it out for something lighter in the AM. Who knows, maybe the Protini will become my AM and the Lala will be my PM moisturizer!
