The Ultimate Hair Care Guide for Blondes

Recently take the plunge and lighten your hair? Or, have you had blonde hair for a while and just aren’t certain you’re using the BEST products? Well, today I am sharing my ultimate Hair Care Guide for Blondes.

Hair Care Guide for Blondes

The Ultimate Hair Care Guide for Blondes

Here’s the thing, blonde hair often means = damaged hair. We’ve all seen (or maybe even had) blonde hair that looks fried, broken, and brassy.

I personally had my own blonde mishap, which I actually talk about quite a bit in my How to Repair Damaged Hair post I put up a while back. When you get blonde hair right though, it looks shiny, healthy, and beautiful.

If you’re wanting to improve the look and feel of your hair, or simply want to improve your blonde hair care routine then keep on reading.

If there’s one good thing that came out of my own hair care blunder, it’s that I was forced to discover what products and hair care techniques worked – and which ones didn’t.

My hair was gummy, damaged, and breaking off in huge chunks – and I pretty much scoured every salon and store for the best products, and here’s what I found:

The Best Shampoos for Blondes:

Gentle Natural Hair Care

When your hair is really damaged, you really want to be sure you aren’t only using sudsy shampoos on your hair.

Shampoos that suds typically dry out and strip your hair of natural oils. To help retain those healthy oils, invest in a good gentle natural shampoo and conditioner.

While you will want to use a sudsy soap now and again (like the two I mention next) to clarify your hair and scalp and also to maintain a brass-free blonde hair tone, you want to be using a gentle natural shampoo the majority of the time.  Here are some gentle natural shampoos & conditioners:

A Clarifying Shampoo

Since you’re using a suds-free shampoo, every now and again (typically once a week to every two weeks) you’re going to want to get an anti-residue shampoo to help get rid of any heavy oils that are weighing your hair down.

This will immediately strip out those oils, but since you’re not using this often you won’t be damaging your hair to the same degree as using a sudsy shampoo every day.

MilkShake Purple Shampoo:

One issue every blonde deals with is brassy blonde hair.

The only way to eliminate it is by investing in an excellent purple shampoo. I’ve pretty much tried them all, as my hair is very brass-prone, and without a doubt, MilkShake Purple Shampoo takes the cake.

This purple shampoo is a blonde hair care essential. It is incredibly strong and will even dye your hands purple if you don’t rinse it off quickly. I typically leave this shampoo in my hair for about 7 minutes to really get it to the ash tone that I like.

I actually wrote a full review of this miracle product which you can read all about in my The Best Purple Shampoo to Eliminate Brassy Hair post!

The Top Daily Conditioners for Blondes:

A Moisturizing Daily Conditioner

When it comes to my daily conditioner, I typically go for one that is light and moisturizing without being overly heavy.

Deep Conditioners:

I actually shared my top 7 favourite deep conditioning hair masks for dry damaged hair a while back, but I am sharing a few of my very top favourites today which I have been using very regularly over the last few months.

Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Mask:

This mask is VERY heavy, so if your hair is oil-prone then this may not be the product for you. This mask hydrates dry hair instantly to help keep bleach-damaged hair feeling and looking as healthy as possible.

L’Oreal Professional Absolut Repair Mask:

If you’re looking for a really intense buttery deep conditioning mask then you’re definitely going to want to look into this conditioner! L’Oreal Professional Absolut Repair Mask is very hydrating and helps make your hair look and feel smooth.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Hair Mask:

While this is a deep conditioning mask, I would say it’s on the lighter side in comparison to the L’Oreal and Macadamia masks I mentioned above. So if you’re on the hunt for a mask that will moisturize your hair without feeling heavy then the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Hair Mask is a great option for you.

Hot Oil Hair Treatments:

The most intense treatment you can do on your hair is an oiling treatment. You can either create your own DIY Hair Oiling Conditioner, or you can invest in one.

Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair Haircare Line

Leave-in Treatments:

Moroccanoil Light Serum

The one thing about blonde hair is that heavy oil serums can actually make your hair look brassy. Rather than weighing your hair down with heavy hair serum, invest in a lighter serum such as Moroccanoil Light serum. This serum will help seal your ends without making your hair appear oily.

Living Proof No Frizz Leave-In Conditioner:

The Living Proof No Frizz Leave-in Conditioner is a great leave-in hair conditioner. It helps control frizz while also making your hair feel silky-smooth and tangle-free.

Silk /Satin Pillowcase

Rather than just protecting your hair during the daytime, take care of your hair while you sleep with a silk pillowcase. Silk pillowcases aren’t as rough on your hair as cotton pillowcases are and will help minimize damage and breakage that happens while you sleep.

Give Ombre or Balayage a try!

If you’re a blonde and hate the upkeep of it (and the damage), then you may want to consider updating your blonde with either an ombre hair look or balayage highlighting treatment. I went ombre last April, and I literally did not touch up my hair again until this March.

I went nearly a FULL YEAR before feeling like I needed to do anything with my hair! During that time, my hair became super healthy, grew out very long, and became more manageable than ever before.

My heart is absolutely bursting right now. I can’t believe our little Liam is here. He is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. He loves his sleep, is unbelievably strong, and is a total cuddle bug. Our hearts are so full 🤍🤍🤍

We had our scheduled c-section for the morning of May 3 and we knew going into it that there were two surgical routes that would be considered because of my prior spinal surgery. The first, the more routine c-section with either an epidural or spinal anaesthesia. The second, being fully put under with general anesthesia. I’ll be honest, I really thought we would be going with the first option(s) and that GA wouldn’t really be on the table. I didn’t want it on the table, but after speaking to the anesthesiologist, it became clear that it was the safest option. It was an emotional decision, I was really scared to be honest. It was not made lightly. I was walked into the OR at about 10:00am and by 10:13am, Liam was earthside and screaming. Jeremy was there to cut the cord and give him his first cuddles. It took me a bit longer to get to see our Liam because of this surgical route, and I feel so lucky knowing Jeremy was there to be with him in his first moments. He already is such a great dad 🤍

The last 48 hours have been a wonderful whirlwind. We are all doing well. We feel incredibly blessed to have our sweet Liam here💙
