Tired of spending $$$ on bath products? Make your own! Today I am sharing a Coconut milk bath that helps soften and soothe your skin.
Homemade Coconut Milk Bath Soak
I don’t know about you – but this quarantine has really kicked my self care into high gear.
While I’ve always loved having baths, it seems like now I just can’t get enough of them. It’s such a relaxing way to end the day and apparently having a bath before bed can actually help you sleep better at night. Who knew, right?
Since, like many of you, I’ve been quite stressed about what’s going on in the world and recently getting laid-off from my job, I’ve found it really important to do things that help me relax and calm my thoughts – like having a bath, doing yoga, going for a stroll, or meditating.
When the quarantine first began I found my insomnia was really bad. I was staying up most of the night, or waking up frequently, feeling panicked. But, I have found that maintaining a level of self-care each day has really helped.
The thing though about having baths more frequently is that I have been absolutely powering through my usual stock of Lush bath bombs. I would usually just order more – but since getting laid off from work, I’ve had to reassess what I spend my money on. What’s necessary vs. what can I go without – and unfortunately, bath bombs just don’t make the cut.
Homemade Coconut Milk Bath Soak
I recently began making my very own DIY bath bombs (it’s surprisingly easy and you don’t need citric acid to make them!) but recently, I ran out of my favourite milk bath, The Body Shop Spa of the World Egyptian Milk & Honey Bath Soak, and since I am on a bit of a spending ban – I decided that I would try to make my own Coconut Milk Bath Soak.
Which ingredients do you need?
The only real essentials for this Homemade Coconut Milk Bath Soak are powdered coconut milk, coconut oil, baking soda, and your favourite essential oil.
It’s a really simple recipe, and chances are you have most of these (if not, all) already at home!
Where can you purchase these ingredients?
Pretty much any grocery store will have these ingredients – with the exception of the essential oils.
Some grocery stores may carry them, but you may find that you need to make an order on Saje Wellness to get the one you’re looking for.
You can also add honey!
If you want to make this even more moisturizing and give your skin an extra boost, add in a little bit of honey.
Honey is great for naturally moisturizing the skin, it is also a natural antiseptic and it’s full of antioxidants that are anti-aging and make your skin look more vibrant and healthy.
What are the benefits of this coconut milk soak?
Coconut milk powder is great for dry skin and can help soothe eczema flare-ups. It softens, soothes, and smooths the skin while also brightening it to make it look healthier and more even overall.
Also, this soak contains baking soda naturally purifies the skin and can help reduce inflammation.
Coconut Milk Bath Soak Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 cup coconut milk powder
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 10-20 drops essential oil (I used lavender)
- 1 tablespoon of honey (optional)
- Food colouring (optional. I used pink here)
Directions:
- In a large bowl, mix all your ingredients together.
- Press the coconut oil into the baking soda and coconut powder so that it becomes really mixed into the powdery parts of this recipe. (Do the same with the honey if you choose to add this in)
- Add your essential oils in as you stir so that they’re evenly distributed throughout the soak.
- Once all your ingredients are mixed together, pour them into a large jar for storing.

Can’t wait to try this! Did you use a melted coconut oil, or the fractionated coconut oil? I just wondered if it mattered which one you used. Thanks!!
Bree says
I used Fractionated Coconut oil but I am sure you could also use it melted! 🙂

Hi there, just made this recipe for a Mother’s day gift!
I also added just a touch of epsom salts, and himalayan salts.
Just wondering do I need to dry out the mixture before bottling?
Thanks!
Annette says
I’m curious about having to dry this as well. I would think you would have to dry it or it would go all clumpy?? And is the honey liquid or can it be melted down as well??
Luna says
Im would like to know as well
Anna says
How many scoops do you put in the bath?
Bree says
I usually put 1-2 🙂
Annette says
I would like to add some epsom and himalayan salts. Either way does this have to be dried in some way prior to bottling/packaging?? Will it not get all clumpy? Curious please, some insight would be welcomed 🙂

Thank you for sharing this recipe. Looks great! Wondering how big your “scoop” is? 2-3 T? Trying to determine how much to use in the bath. Thanks!
Bree says
I would say about 2 tbsps is perfect!
