My Travel Beauty Essentials: Makeup

My Travel Beauty Essentials: Makeup

While you’re on vacation, you want to look your best without feeling like you’re packing a ton of products and options. While it may look like I pack a lot while I am away, I do try to keep it to a minimum and I like to keep products that offer some versatility in mind. For example, I usually bring a bronzer or blush that can also be worn as an eyeshadow. I easily pack all the items I bring in a small beauty bag – and I actually include a majority of my travel hair care essentials in the same bag.

Travel Beauty Essentials: Makeup

An Eyeshadow Palette

Rather than pack individual shadows, I always pack an eyeshadow palette – or my magnetic palette with a few shadows, blushes, and a bronzer stuck in it. Palettes are always a great travel go-to because they give you lots of options and versatility with your look in a compact palette.

Even better: find a face & eye palette! A single palette that will give you eyeshadow options, blushes, bronzer, and a highlight is an ideal travel beauty item. I often pack around my because I find they can provide me with all the options I need while traveling.

Eyeliner

When I head on holiday, I typically bring black eyeliner or brown eyeliner. More often than not, I pack a brown eyeliner because I find it looks a bit softer on me but this is just a personal preference.

Concealer

Concealer is one product I never skip in my travel beauty bag. When I’m tired, I look tired, and there’s nothing that fixes my dark circles like a good concealer.

Mascara

Mascara is one of those beauty items that I just love. Even when I am wearing no other makeup, putting on a bit of mascara just makes me feel more put-together. When I travel, I often don’t wear makeup on travel days – with the exception of mascara. If I had to pick one item to pack along with me when I travel, it would be mascara.

Foundation or Skin Tint

It probably comes as no surprise that I burn quite easily. I am pale, and freckly, and my skin is really sensitive to the sun.  To help protect my skin when I am out, I always use some kind of SPF – a skin tint with SPF, BB cream with SPF, or Mineral foundation with SPF. This helps even out my skin tone while also protecting my skin from the sun. While I am on the beach though, or at the pool, I typically forgo foundation and just wear sunscreen.

Blush

I always like to bring a neutral blush tone on holiday. For me, this means I either pack a soft peach-toned blush or mauve, as I find they just work best on my skin and work well with whatever makeup look I wear. I find having one good blush in a neutral tone is also great because it can be used as an eyeshadow.

Bronzer

Another product that can easily double as an eyeshadow is bronzer. I love packing along a good bronzer so that I can add a bit of a warm bronze to my skin and also use it as an eyeshadow when needed.

Highlighter

If you’re not into glowy makeup then this may be one product you’d want to skip, but I love a glowy highlighted look. These days, I tend to go for highlights that are more subtle and less sparkly so that they look very natural during the day. I also like to use highlighters to brighten up my eyes by applying it to the inner corners.

Lip Balm & Tinted Lip Balm

I used to love lipsticks, but over the last few years, I have definitely become more of a lip balm or tinted lip balm sort of girl. I just like products that feel comfortable and moisturizing on my lips. While I used to pack a lipstick or two when I traveled, I now will pack just a lip balm or tinted lip balm.

Great picks! I love the Urban Decay Naked palette although the one I have is the original. NYX Numbo pencil in milk is my staple product for eyes and Dip Down is great as an eyeliner and for works amazing to do brows too 🙂

These are all great choices. I love the Bronzer with a tan and the sugar lips is great for the weather! Sunscreen is the best idea on there!!

All you need for a sunny vacay! Sunscreen for the face is difficult indeed, especially with our skin type. I don't get a rash from "normal" facial sunscreens, but my eyes will burn out of my head. Must be the alcohol and perfume, iieeh!!

    XOXO from the Netherlands,
    Lucia

Sunscreen is definitely #1 – can't go into the sun without it =| normal sunscreens make my skin all rough and dry, its painful!
