Olaplex 3 Review: Today I am sharing my thoughts and review of the Olaplex 3 Hair Perfector.
When I was 13, I decided I wanted to get highlights. It was the first time I ever did anything to my hair that didn’t simply just wash out in the shower. I had pushed for months and months to get highlights. Finally, my parents caved and allowed me to get a few foils of blonde through my dark blonde hair.
Back then, I had healthy and strong long hair, and the bleach barely affected it. I walked out without needing a haircut, without worrying about conditioning treatments, and my hair looked bright, blonde, and healthy.
But, after years of yo-yo-ing my hair from blonde to black to brunette and back again (and getting diagnosed with hypothyroidism), my once-strong healthy hair was officially brittle and broken. And then, after spending months and months getting it healthy and swearing off hair dye and bleach, I decided to get highlights again. (Insert facepalm emoji!)
My Hair Was Ruined.
This time, the highlights didn’t simply brighten and add dimension to my hair, they turned my medium brown hair into a platinum blonde. A dry, damaged, gummy platinum blonde. The hairdresser had put the highlights in, went to lunch, and forgot about me.
It wasn’t until another hairdresser noticed me panicking that they rinsed out the bleach. It truly was the worst hair experience of my life, and I thought I was going to lose all my hair.
After that, I stopped drying my hair for quite some time, invested in the deep conditioning treatments, and chopped off approx 3-4 inches of hair. My hair was shorter than ever, extremely brittle, and very damaged. The only thing left to do was wait it out, and hope that the care I put into it would result in healthier hair.
It took years to repair the damage – but now, my hair is healthier than ever. I only dye my hair once yearly now, and I always return to the same hairdresser. She has helped me find great deep conditioning products, the ultimate purple shampoo, and now she also has let me in on the best hair reparative secret: Olaplex 3 Hair Perfector.
Olaplex 3 Review
Olaplex 3 is just one of three Olaplex treatments available, and it’s the only one you can take home and use as an at-home hair treatment.
Olaplex 1 and 2 are used in-salon during and after the bleaching process to reduce the damage from hair lightening. Olaplex 3 is not a “deep conditioner” as it doesn’t necessarily add moisture to your hair, instead, it acts as a binding agent and strengthens your hair, and that’s why it’s instead called a Reparative Treatment.
How often should you use the Olaplex 3 Hair Perfector?
The Olaplex 3 Reparative Treatment should be used twice monthly (or more depending on the condition of your hair) for 10+ minutes. For the absolute best results, it’s recommended to keep the treatment on for an hour or two.
So what did I think of Olaplex 3?
At first, purchasing this tiny bottle for $45 freaked me out. I definitely was in a bit of sticker shock!
I don’t often buy into “miracle” treatments, and I was really skeptical when I was the size and price tag of this product. But, after hearing rave reviews from a friend, my co-worker, and my hairdresser, I knew I had to try it out for myself.
I am almost sad that I tried this product because now I am 100% hooked on it. I love how it made my hair so much stronger and healthier feeling. It’s an expensive new “must have” – sigh.
Since I do lighten my hair, my hair often feels a bit dry – especially after spending too many days at the beach and in the sun this summer – and 3 has really helped heal it. Truly, I am amazed by this miracle-worker product and while I’m not a fan of the price tag of the Olaplex 3 Hair Perfector, I do think it’s a great product that really does work.

I’ve heard so much about this. I don’t dye my hair, so I’m not sure I’d ever use it, but it’s good to know!

I’ve actually never heard of this product before, but since I’ve been dying my hair since I was about 13 too, I’m always eager to try products to help.
Thanks for the great review!
