When summer comes around it seems like J & I are constantly on the road. Whether we are traveling to see family and friends on the Island or driving out to Okanagan to visit our favourite wineries, there are a few road trip essentials that always make our road trip more comfortable and enjoyable.
Of course, we pack along the essentials like some tasty snacks (dried mangos are our favourite grab-and-go snack!), our iPod, a map, and our camera. Aside from the basics, we also always pack a few items that always make for a more comfortable journey, I like to think of these as my luxury road trip essentials.
Road Trip Essentials: Comfy + Cozy
Comfy Shoes (or slippers!)
If I’m playing passenger for our road trip, then I’ll definitely want to wear either comfy shoes, or better yet – slippers!
Comfy Clothes
I’m not one to wear jeans while traveling. I am a sweat-suit or sweater & leggings sort of gal. I personally find it makes the trip more comfortable and enjoyable.
Foot Lotion
This sounds really odd but honestly if you’re in the car for a long while, pack along some foot lotion and give your feet a little treatment on the road! Simply just put a bit of foot lotion on, tuck your feet into your slippers, and you got yourself an easy on-the-road spa treatment.
This little DIY spa treatment will ensure that by the time you arrive at your destination, you’ll have beach-ready feet. It’s like having a spa on the road!
Cozy Knit Sweater or Blanket
If you plan on traveling into the night then be sure to pack along a light knit sweater or blanket. Traveling and feeling cold and uncomfortable is so unenjoyable so I always like to throw a sweater or blanket in the car to grab as needed.
Travel Pillow
Whenever I travel in the car I tend to fall asleep (not at the wheel, in the passenger seat!) so packing along a mini pillow is essential to not doing the sleepy head bob the whole trip.
Road Trip Essentials: Beauty
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a daily beauty essential for me, and it’s an absolute must-have when we travel.
It’s easy to forget during a road trip that the sun that’s shining through your car window can burn your skin. You can still burn your skin, and you can still get sun damage. That’s why I always pack along a little sunscreen so I can quickly and easily reapply throughout the day.
Water, Water, Water
I drink a lot of water throughout my day and going anywhere without it really isn’t an option. I fill up my big water bottle and throw in a few lemons & limes to make it more of a “detox” water.
Road Trip Essentials: Entertainment
Audio Books or Podcasts:
Rather than just listening to music on our trips we also listen to books and Podcasts.
If you get motion sickness (like I do – terribly) this is a great option rather than trying to read a book while on the road. Plus audiobooks and podcasts will be fun for both you and the driver, unlike a book.
