Getting Bronzed without the Sun: My Favourite Sunless Tanner
I have to say: I am SO happy it’s summer. There’s something about summer that just makes me feel so much more positive, lighter, and excited about life.
Maybe it’s the fact that I can now head to the beach – my happy place – and an option that’s eliminated during the cooler months.
With that being said, I am not a sun worshipper. I know – it sounds strange since I love days spent in the park, or at the beach – but just because I enjoy warmer weather doesn’t mean I want to roast out in the hot sun.
Instead, I’ll always pack along a mineral sunscreen, liquid sunscreen, and a hat.
One thing about being so sun-conscious is that while I never get burnt, I also never get tanned. During the summer, I love having a bit of a bronze to my skin so now I use sunless tanners to safely achieve a natural golden tan.

Here’s the thing: Not all sunless tanners are made equally. In fact, I’d say there are some great ones, but more than that – there are some terrible ones. And boy, have I tried some terrible ones.
From turning bright orange to being a streaky mess, I’ve had all the self-tanner “whoopsie” moments.
Whenever I try a new tanner, I get pretty nervous. It sucks to think you could be stuck looking orange and streaky. The self-tanning life is a risky one!
But, after using the St Tropez Purity Bronzing Water Mousse I was immediately converted. I’ve used other St Tropez tanning products in the past, and while I’ve never hated any of them, I’ve also never been hooked on them – until now.
The bronzing water mousse is super easy to apply, it feels lightweight and dries into your skin super quickly so you don’t have to worry about feeling sticky or tacky for hours after application.
Over 8 hours, the tan gradually develops. The colour that you are left with is a soft golden tan which is quite natural and realistic looking.
I use a tanning mitt to apply the St Tropez Purity Bronzing Water Mousse and I’ve found that for the most part, this product isn’t streaky.
I have gotten the odd streak here and there (mainly on the back of my arms where my shoulder connects – that’s my typical “whoops, just forgot to apply it there” spot) but in general, I’ve found that using a bit of coconut oil with a cloth helps to really soften any streaks or lines on those missed spots.
*I actually have a whole post on how to avoid getting streaks when self-tanning that you should totally check out next!
I also always apply a moisturizer on my feet, ankles, knees, and elbows to discourage and pooling of colour on those drier spots – as they always want to soak up more product!
The St Tropez Purity Bronzing Water Mist
The St. Tropez Purity Bronzing Water Mist is legit one of my favourite products – ever. After about 5 days of use, I knew it would be a product that I would become hooked on.
The mist is super fine and lightweight. You apply this after your typical skincare routine in the AM or PM, allow it to soak in, and then you can carry on with your usual makeup routine, or sleep schedule.
This super fine mist gradually tans your skin over a few days. Because it’s so fine, it doesn’t leave your skin with any streaks, and the colour that develops over a few days is a natural-looking golden brown.
You can even use this mist to tan your back since your back is a more difficult spot to massage out the mousse.
