ST TROPICA Hot Oil Hair Mask Review
I’ve been a fan of hot oil treatments for years. While I often make my own DIY Hot Coconut Oil Hair Mask, sometimes a brand steps out with a hot oil mask that I just need to try.
I like to use either a moisturizing hair mask or hot oil treatment about once a week, or once every two weeks depending on how my hair feels and how busy my schedule is. I’ve kept up a hair care routine ever since I was young and first started highlighting, straightening, curling, and damaging my hair.
How did I first start using a hot oil hair mask?
Back in my early 20s, a quick trip to the salon for a few highlights turned into my absolute hair horror story. The hairdresser forgot about me and left the salon while I was sitting there with bleach on my head. Other hairdressers noticed, but it took a long time to get the attention of anyone who would actually help me out.
So, you guessed it: my hair was destroyed. The bleach was left on way too long and rather than leaving with some honey blonde highlights on my then medium brown hair, I walked out with bleach blonde, fried, and gummy hair. And, I was devastated. I ended up having to cut a ton of hair off, and my hair broke off in big chunks for months.
At that point, I was looking for anything and everything that would help me grow my hair out again, and that would also strengthen my hair a bit so it would stop breaking off so much. It was during this time that I discovered hot oil hair masks.
Can you purchase these pouches online?
ST TROPICA has their hot oil mask pouches which come with the ST TROPICA hair growth vitamins. However, these pouches aren’t available online for purchase, instead, the ST TROPICA Beach Goddess Hot Oil Hair Mask is available in a larger tube for $17.50.
The reason they are moving away from the hot oil mask pouches is that they want their brand to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and single-use containers just aren’t that. I appreciate that they are transitioning their brand to be even more environmentally focused because that’s also really important to me. I hate being wasteful and I am always looking for ways to improve myself, and in general, I try to steer clear from single-use products.
Plus, $17.50 isn’t a lot for a great hair treatment. So many hair masks about $40+ now so I am happy to pay just $17.50 for a mask that provides multiple uses.
Did I always just make my own DIY hot oil hair. masks?
Actually, no, at first I went to a salon for the treatment. It was a really neat treatment and it absolutely did help my hair, but unfortunately, the salon went out of businesses and with it, their hot oil treatment went, too.
They used to use a peppermint hot oil mask and then would put me under a machine that acted similarly to a blow-drying cap – but it was slightly different. It didn’t really blow hot air, instead it just kind of radiated heat. It was a really neat treatment and because it did help my hair so much, when they went out of business I was really sad.
It was after it went out of business that I realized I should try making my own hot oil masks at home, and that’s when I began making my DIY peppermint hot oil mask. Since then I have also purchased hot oil masks, and when I received my ST TROPICA 60 Day Hair Vitamins I was excited to see that they included 2 packets of their beach goddess hot oil hair mask.
Wait – what is a hot oil mask for hair?
A hot oil mask for hair is exactly what it sounds like: it’s an oil that you warm up and put on your hair like a deep conditioner. It sounds weird, but it can be really great for your hair and scalp.
Hot Oil Treatment vs Hair Mask: What’s the Difference?
Hot oil treatments are an oil-based treatment while hair masks are often a creamy conditioning treatment. Hot oil treatments often have a scalp-treatment component to them as they often have peppermint (which makes the scalp tingle), or other hair supplements to increase scalp blood flow and circulation.
Another big difference is the heat aspect of hot oil treatments. Often times, a hair mask will just be applied as is – not warmed up. Hot oil treatments are warmed up which is supposed to help the treatment penetrate the hair shaft. I know people are skeptical when it comes to this but because I’ve had such positive results with hot oil treatments, I’m a believer.

Was it easy to wash out?
It was unbelievably easy to wash this hot oil treatment out of my hair. Typically when I use a hot oil treatment, like my DIY coconut oil treatment, I have to wash my hair out twice using a clarifying shampoo like Moroccanoil Clarifying Shampoo.
However, before using this treatment I asked ST.TROPICA how they recommended removing the mask and they said any shampoo should work so long as it does lather up so to rinse this out I just used my simple daily shampoo. It removed everything all in one go and didn’t leave any sticky or heavy oil residue on my hair.
If there’s one thing that has deterred me from using hot oil treatment in the past, it’s been the fact that typically you have to really work to get the oil out of your hair. Even with the Hello Hair hot oil mask (which I did really like), I had to rinse it out twice with a very harsh clarifying shampoo in order to rinse all the product out of my hair. I really like that with this mask I can feel confident that it will fully rinse out in one wash and leave me with moisturized, soft, and silky feeling hair.

Review of the ST TROPICA Beach Goddess Hair Mask:
If you have read up to here then this will come as no surprise: I am a HUGE fan of the ST TROPICA Beach Goddess hot oil mask.
This hot oil mask really did make my hair look and feel so soft, silky, and healthy. It made my hair have a beautiful glossy shine when it dried and it didn’t leave any sticky residue on my hair from the oil.
In addition, I like that ST TROPICA has prioritized moving away from single-use packaging like the packages in today’s post and instead is selling their Beach Goddess Hair Mask in larger bottles.
Lastly, I really like that this mask is only $17.50. I feel like hair care has gotten so expensive over the last few years and I really get so excited when I find a brand that is affordable and great. I am excited to try more products from ST TROPICA and to buy the full size of this hair mask.
