Summer is my favourite time of year. In fact, if I am being completely honest – it feels like the other 8 months of the year that I am simply just waiting for summer to come around. While I am not a cold weather person, my love of summer is about more than just the sunshine and rain-less days. It’s about lighter clothes, brighter prints, and the endless excuses to get outdoors. It feels like summer is the time of year when the whole city comes alive. There are countless festivals, the patio bars open up, and the beaches are bustling with sun worshipers.
This year, I am especially excited to dive into summer. My summer calendar is filling up quickly, I’m finally going to be able to start planning our wedding, and there are summer styles and fashion trends galore that I can’t wait to try out. Let me just say that this summer is going to be a good one.
Summer Trends Report
Off the Shoulder
Lately, off the shoulder shirts and dresses have ranked highly on my favourite trends list for summer. Last year, I went crazy for off the shoulder pieces, (and became obsessed with this off the shoulder eyelet shirt) and it seems that this year will just be more of the same.
Off the shoulder pieces look romantic, show off your collarbone, and create a very feminine look. I am a huge fan of feminine styles and pieces, so it’s really no surprise that I am such a fan of off the shoulder styles.
The one trend that truly surprised me this year was the choker necklace. If you told me that chokers were going to come back in style a few years ago, I would’ve never believed you.
As a child of the 90s, choker necklaces have a certain nostalgia that I can’t help but love, and so when I began seeing them pop up on style blogs and in magazines I immediately felt drawn to try them out myself.
Chokers instantly add an edge or unexpected element to your outfit, and they pair perfectly with off-the-shoulder shirts and crop tops. Best of all, if you’re unsure of this trend than simply purchase an expensive one from Forever 21 before investing in a pricier option. There are tons of affordable choker options, and you can even easily make your own using a thin piece of fabric.
I Spy Eyelet
For summer, I don’t know if there’s anything that looks quite as right than eyelet pieces. Eyelet sundresses and shirts appear airy and light – which is the epitome of what you want to wear during these hot summery days.
One shoe style I love every year come summer is the sandal. All Year long, we hide our feet away in boots and sneakers, and now finally we can show off our bright summery pedicures.
Strappy sandals have been a very popular trend over the last few years. But, with chunky heels coming back in style, finally there are new options available that are more wearable for daily life. These low heeled chunky sandals from Aldo have proved to be some of the most practical and easy to wear shoes I have in my closet. They pair well with everything, and are comfortable to walk in.
