4 Ways to use Coconut Oil to Get Healthier Hair

4 Ways to use Coconut Oil to Get Healthier Hair

Today I am sharing a few easy ways to use coconut oil to get healthier hair. Scroll down to learn more!

A few years ago, I put my hair through the wringer. It was damaged and over-processed – really, it was a complete mess. I wish I had photos to show you all, but I avoided the camera when my hair was at its very worst.

It didn’t take me long to realize that damaged hair was difficult hair and that I really didn’t like it. Rather than being able to wake up and go, my hair took forever to style and always felt dry and crispy. It was always breaking so I was never able to achieve the hair length I wanted, and it always had a fuzzy look to it.

So, I began to look into ways to improve the condition of my hair. One thing I looked into to get my hair back to feeling its best was ways to use coconut oil to get healthier hair.

4 Ways to Use Coconut Oil to Get Healthier Hair

In Your Conditioner

Ever buy a conditioner that just didn’t quite do it for your hair?

Well, if the issue you’re finding is that the purchased conditioner just doesn’t really moisturize your hair then adding a bit of coconut oil to it could be a real game-changer.

Coconut oil is super moisturizing, and when melted it easily blends into conditioners and other hair products. I often add it to my daily conditioners and deep conditioners to make them even more moisturizing.

As a Serum

One of the ways to use coconut oil to get healthier hair is by using it as a hair serum!

Coconut oil is thin enough that it easily absorbs into your hair without making it look and feel greasy. Of course, just like any other serum, you don’t want to use too much! So when you’re applying the coconut oil as a serum be sure you apply it with care.

One warning though, never use any oil on your hair before using heat products on your hair (unless they are a heat protectant) as this will actually fry your hair.

As for a Hot Oil Hair Treatment

If you’re struggling with dry damaged hair then you’re going to want to start oiling your hair.

Oiling is a method in which you make a DIY Coconut Oil Hair Treatment by warming up some oil (make sure it’s warm, not hot!), adding in essential oils, and then applying it all over your head.

If you have very dry ends, then be sure to focus most of the oil there and really saturate the bottom of your hair. You then wrap your head with a towel and let the treatment sit.

After a few hours, you then will rinse out your hair (I recommend using a clarifying or anti-residue shampoo) to be left with healthy, soft, silky hair.

After a hair highlighting disaster, I discovered oiling treatments and they very quickly became one of my favorite treatments to instantly take my hair from feeling damaged and dry to soft and healthy.

**If you’re not into making your own coconut oil treatment, then you can purchase a hot oil hair treatment online, too!

Scalp Massage

One easy way to encourage hair growth is by massaging your scalp once daily for approx. 5 minutes.

You could do this without any oils or serums, but using a coconut-based serum to massage your scalp will further condition your hair follicles and scalp and can further increase your hair growth.

To ramp up this scalp treatment, I typically like to add a few drops of mint essential oil to get that cool fresh feeling on my scalp. Apparently, this can help stimulate blood flow to the scalp which helps increase your hair growth rate.

I like to use coconut oil on my dry ends. Actually, I use it on my face, to remove eye makeup and as a skin moisturizer too. It’s so versatile! Thanks for sharing these tips!

I will definitely be using coconut oil for hair more! I use it to remove my makeup and on my body because it not really heavy… I will now definitely put it on the ends of everyone’s hair in the house!
    Thank you!

These are such great tips! I love using coconut oil in my hair as a mask, but I’ll have to give these other ideas a try. It’s crazy how big of a difference just one treatment seems to make!

I own my coconut oil obsession. I cannot get enough of it for my hair. I’m trying to figure out if I can get it packed in my carry on for an upcoming international flight, but I’m just not sure. I’m definitely going to try an oil treatment when I get back. I haven’t done that yet!

I love coconut oil, but it’s a nightmare to wash it off. that’s why for oiling I use almond hair. It doesn’t stick too much and give you good results too. Have you tried?

I’ve never found this, but that may be because of the clarifying shampoo I use to rinse out the oil. I use neutrogena’s anti-residue shampoo and it seems to remove any stickiness of the oil. My hair feels quite healthy and soft afterward. I have used almond oil, and avocado oil, before but I found they were both a bit heavy for my hair!

I love coconut oil, especially the one from Trader Joe’s! Another tip is I eat a small amount of it. That sounds crazy when you hear it but it kinda helps from the inside out. OOooh and coconut oil is also AMAZING on your skin too!!!

You know what – I’ve heard that! I heard that coconut oil is really great for your stomach / immune system. I should try that!

My heart is absolutely bursting right now. I can’t believe our little Liam is here. He is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. He loves his sleep, is unbelievably strong, and is a total cuddle bug. Our hearts are so full 🤍🤍🤍

We had our scheduled c-section for the morning of May 3 and we knew going into it that there were two surgical routes that would be considered because of my prior spinal surgery. The first, the more routine c-section with either an epidural or spinal anaesthesia. The second, being fully put under with general anesthesia. I’ll be honest, I really thought we would be going with the first option(s) and that GA wouldn’t really be on the table. I didn’t want it on the table, but after speaking to the anesthesiologist, it became clear that it was the safest option. It was an emotional decision, I was really scared to be honest. It was not made lightly. I was walked into the OR at about 10:00am and by 10:13am, Liam was earthside and screaming. Jeremy was there to cut the cord and give him his first cuddles. It took me a bit longer to get to see our Liam because of this surgical route, and I feel so lucky knowing Jeremy was there to be with him in his first moments. He already is such a great dad 🤍

The last 48 hours have been a wonderful whirlwind. We are all doing well. We feel incredibly blessed to have our sweet Liam here💙
