Yep… It’s Official: I’m Brunette!
I’m not going to lie – it’s weird to wake up in the morning and see myself as a brunette.
For the last 10+ years, I have pretty much always been some shade of blonde. While I loved being blonde, and I really do love blonde hair, I just knew it was time for a change.

Why I took the plunge and dyed my hair brown:
The Covid-19 Effect:
The first reason I decided to go from blonde to brunette was because of the cost associated with getting my hair done. Due to COVID-19, I am in the same unemployed boat as many others.
I simply am no longer earning enough to afford little luxuries – like getting my hair done. Especially right now with prices being raised for haircuts and dye jobs – I simply cannot afford it!
The other thing: I was over the damage.
Another big reason I decided to swap out my blonde hair for brunette was that I felt like it was really damaging my hair. I’ve never had super strong healthy hair but bleaching it every few months certainly wasn’t helping that.
Plus, while I really have loved having short hair these last few months, I’ve been considering growing my hair out. And, there’s just no way I would be able to grow out my hair well without cutting back on the bleach.
I know I’ve talked about this before but here we go again: another big problem with my hair is the fact that I have hypothyroidism. While I am on Synthroid for my hypothyroidism, I just personally don’t find that it’s a foolproof cure-all medication.
There are times during the year that I can feel that somethings off – I get tired more easily, my nails peel and break, and my hair gets thinner and grows slower. It’s not all the time, but it’s sometimes, and knowing that that already slows down my hair growth, it just seemed to make sense to stop bleaching to give my hair the best shot possible to growing longer.

Did I dye it myself, or go into a salon?
I’m sure I am going to get some hate for this because people always say you should go to a professional to do your hair rather than do it yourself… But, I dyed it myself. Well, technically my mum dyed it for me.
We went to Sally’s and got the Color Brilliance by ion in Light Brown (5N) and a cream developer. Applying the dye was pretty easy (however, I’ve had practice since I have dyed my hair before and my mum has dyed my hair before) and the whole process took just about an hour.

So… Has my haircare routine changed?
It’s hasn’t a ton. The big difference has been how frequently I use my Milk Shake Silver Shampoo. I used to use that quite frequently in order to offset the brassy tones in my blonde hair. It was a really great shampoo for that.
Now that I am brunette though, I only need to use the Milk Shake Silver Shampoo occasionally when I feel like my hair is taking on a more reddish tone than I like.
Lately, I’ve also been using Gisou products. While I would’ve tried these out before as a blonde as well, I recently began using them and I’ve really been enjoying how they work with my hair. *Gisou Haircare Review to come.
Because I have also been thinking that I’d like to grow my hair out, I recently started taking the ST.TROPICA Hair Growth vitamins and using the ST. TROPICA Beach Goddess Hot Oil Mask as a hair and scalp treatment.

So… Will I Never Dye My Hair AGAIN?!
For the next while, I will not be dying my hair. I’m excited to see what my natural hair colour is really like.
And, I am really excited to see if I notice a big improvement in my hair: will it be healthier? Will it break less? Will I be able to grow it longer? Will it look thicker? These are things I am hoping I’ll find over the next while as I let my hair just naturally be what it is.
While I really loved being blonde, it was a lot of work and I am excited to just have low-maintenance hair for the next while.
You look absolutely gorgeous!
